Zmâla, A Curious Eye is three years old. Three years and three issues that were committed to challenging the mainstream – we believe in a paper publication, we stand up for independent photojournalism and for a different vision of the world. We are currently preparing our 4th issue. To ensure its publication, and to safeguard the alternative voice of the world’s leading photographic collectives, our review needs your support!
Zmâla explores the world through the eyes of the photographers who have come together to set up their own structures in the form of collectives, in order to preserve their freedom and independence. Zmâla is a once-yearly bilingual publication (in French and English) – a cross between a review and a book (176 colour pages) – and is sold through various bookshops. We publish work from across the photographic spectrum (reportages, documentaries, staged photographs, photojournalism...) reflecting the principal trends in contemporary photography. Zmâla, A Curious Eye has an original editorial line: giving space to the image and in-depth treatment of subjects, while placing importance on context that sheds light on a photographer’s particular approach.

Zmâla, l’œil curieux existe depuis trois ans. Trois ans pour trois numéros placés sous le signe de la résistance – pour la revue papier, pour la photographie indépendante, pour une vision différente du monde. Le numéro 4 est en préparation, et pour qu’il voie le jour, pour que l’image continue à vivre, la revue a besoin de vous !
Zmâla explore le monde à travers le regard de photographes qui bâtissent leurs propres structures, les collectifs, afin de préserver leur liberté et leur indépendance. Publication annuelle et bilingue (français/anglais), à mi-chemin entre la revue et le livre (176 pages couleur), Zmâla publie différentes écritures photographiques (reportage, documentaire, mise en scène, photojournalisme, interventions plastiques…) qui reflètent les tendances de la photographie contemporaine. Distribuée en librairie, Zmâla est prolongée par un site internet, www.zmala.net
Zmâla, l’œil curieux propose une ligne éditoriale singulière en donnant la part belle à l’image et en privilégiant les publications au long cours, sans oublier la partie rédactionnelle destinée à éclairer les démarches photographiques, notamment à travers des dossiers thématiques (le webdocumentaire, la révolution internet, le retour de la Street Photography… ).
